The mission of Celebrate Independence is to cultivate meaningful community belonging for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. By prioritizing the participant’s role as the director of their own journey, we provide advocacy and person-centered support necessary to move beyond ‘inclusion’ and into true ‘membership.’ We believe that every individual deserves to be a visible, active, and valued neighbor in the community of their choice.

Social Capital: We don’t just facilitate outings; we build bridges. Our goal is to help participants develop unpaid relationships and natural support within their neighborhoods.
Presence to Contribution: We shift the focus from merely being present in the community to contributing to the community—whether through local hobby groups, volunteerism, or civic engagement.
Participant-Led Discovery: We help participants discover ‘third places’—the social environments outside of home and work—that match their unique interests and personality.
Celebrate Independence is proud to be a certified DDA provider offering tailored services to all DDA Waiver participants who reside within the State of Maryland and choose to self-direct their services. Under the Self-Directed Services (SDS) model, you exercise full choice, control, and authority over your support. In the true spirit of self-direction, we empower you to choose your direct service providers. When you partner with us, you maintain the freedom to interview and select the staff that best fit your lifestyle, personality, and needs.
